Black Heart Review

Black Heart (Curse Workers, #3)Curse Workers #3

Cassel Sharpe knows he’s been used as an assassin, but he’s trying to put all that behind him. He’s trying to be good, even though he grew up in a family of con artists and cheating comes as easily as breathing to him. He’s trying to do the right thing, even though the girl he loves is inextricably connected with crime. And he’s trying to convince himself that working for the Feds is smart, even though he’s been raised to believe the government is the enemy.

But with a mother on the lam, the girl he loves about to take her place in the Mob, and new secrets coming to light, the line between what’s right and what’s wrong becomes increasingly blurred. When the Feds ask Cassel to do the one thing he said he would never do again, he needs to sort out what’s a con and what’s truth. In a dangerous game and with his life on the line, Cassel may have to make his biggest gamble yet—this time on love.

                                                       5 Smokin' Kisses

oh my god. Out of all the Curse Workers, Black Heart Is defenitly my favorite. I just fell in love with this one, theyre all amazing-sure- but this one... just wow.

"Girls like her, my grandfather once warned me, girls like her turn into woman with eyes like bullet holes and mouths like knives. They will drink you down like a shot of whisky. Falling in love with them is like falling down a flight of stairs. What no one told me, with all those warnings, is that even after you've fallen, even after you know how painful it is, you'd get in line to do it again."

Maybe i like it so much because Cassel just reminds me of Ethan from Beautiful Creatures, or maybe Holly Black is a genious. Its probably Both.

So even after saying wow already, thats all that seems to come to mind. This novel is just phenomenal. Everything you could ask for is in here: love & betrayal, Mystery & killing, Drama & crimes, Mafias & Feds. God, so good.

So here, Lila is gone. She leaves to be a part of the crime family that she was born into, and she leaves Cassel. She's having a hard time coming to terms with forgiving him. Cassel thinks its because his mom's curse wore off and she doesnt love him anymore. BUT, she's mad because she loves him and she thinks he doesnt- he was just lying to make her feel better... then he tried to work her.
CASSEL. IS . STUPID.
Also, Cassel's mama has herself in a little knot again, after getting the governer to contradict on air everything he stands against towards workers, Zacherov has his hands on her now. She's being heald captive by Lila's daddy. what a cute story.
Barron & Cassel decide to work for the Feds, and all goes well until they ask Cassel to use his Powers as a transformation worker to get rid of the governer. They cover it in whip cream and cherries- to hide that its actually a con. To hide the fact that he would be getting the governer out of the way while he gets arrested for helping them, by them. Its all dirty, thank god he figures it out in the nick of time!
Also, sam's kind of a badass now. Even after Daneca broke up with him and dates Barron, he tries to be the hero for another character we are introduced to, Mina. instead he gets shot in the leg... not quite their yet bud :s

This novel had amazing scenes pilling on top of each other, amazing quote after amazing quote. Just perfection. I wanna frame my copy just for the heck of it . [ i wont..]

So Cassel goes through the novel trying to solve things between him and Lila, figuring out what the feds want from him, Keeping Barron on track and away from Daneca, helping sam, helping mina, helping his mom and zacherov... he had his plate full.

Despite Lila being mad at him while she went to wallingford, but after she leaves Cassel risks going to Zacherov's house to see her. even though if he was discovered to be working for the feds Lilas father would shoot him in a heart beat... he still goes. There, Lila seems to break. She loves him, and he wants her- no more playing hard to get or pretend mad.

"You shouldn't have come. I put everything in the letter so we wouldn't have to- she stops speaking as if the rest of her sentence deserted her. She takes another half step towards me, were close enough that if she whispered I'd hear it. I see the soft line of her mouth, and the clear brightness of her eye's, and i remember dreaming about those features when it still seemed like she could be mine.
She was the epic crush of my childhood. She was the tragedy that made me look inside myself and see my corrupt heart, she was my sin & salvation.
I sway towards Lila, waiting for her to pull back, but she doesn't. My hands come up, crushing her to me as my mouth catches hers. Her body folds against mine, lips warm and soft, parting in a single sigh..."

I just love that scene. damn. Theyre just so hot together, I CANT BELIEVE ITS OVER :(
Black heart has some great Scenes and quotes, and life lessons.

"Birth to grave, we all know it'll be us one day. Our tragedy is that we forget it might be someone else first"

Well, that is the end of the curse workers :( this series is higly recommended.. it has defenitly made it's way into my favorites. especially with the amazing ending!

"I think we should do what we want. You're what I want. You're what I've always wanted"
"Well good" her smile is all teeth. "because theirs no turning back now". Her gloved hands turn the wheel sharply, and i feel the giddy rush that only comes at the end of things, that comes, when despite everything, i realize we actually got away with it"

Happy reading & remember "Your coffee should be black as hell, strong as death & sweet as love" ;)
